CONFINEMENT: TIME TO MAKE LEMONADE!
The current challenges facing traditional individual French classes, including rising tuition fees, budget cuts, or more recently, confinement have prompted many students to seek alternatives.
Online learning has clearly become one of the most popular higher learning alternatives. The continuing improvement in the reputation of e-learning has also helped to fuel its expansion, as initial scepticism has waned in the face of evidence that e-learning can be just as effective as face-to-face learning.
Advantages and disadvantages of e-learning
E-learning is probably one of the biggest revolutions in contemporary education. Will there ever be a world without traditional education? Will it one day be replaced by e-learning?
Variety of programmes and courses
From traditional individual or group classes to fully online vocational schools, language lessons today offer a variety of options for students. This means that no matter what students want to study, they can find the courses or programs leading to a degree proficiency they need online.
Convenience and flexibility
The online courses give students the opportunity to plan their study time around the rest of their day, instead of the other way around.
Ads featuring online students studying in pyjamas only scratch the surface of one of the main benefits of online education: there are no physical classroom sessions. Learning material or homework are sent electronically to the student, who will read them and complete the proposed assignments or exercises. Students will not have to deal with traffic and traffic jams, find parking spaces, leave work early for class or miss important family time the students can thus study from absolutely anywhere they want.
More interaction and greater ability to concentrate
Although there is conflicting data on the participation rate of online students compared to traditional courses, one thing is certain: online courses offer shy or more reluctant students the opportunity to participate in discussions in the form of forums or chats with greater ease than face-to-face courses. Some students even report that online courses are easier to follow because they allow for better concentration because they are not distracted by other students and classroom activities.
Avoid risks and nuisances.
In certain situations, traditional institutions may cancel courses: inclement weather, absence or lack of trainer. Rather than missing important classroom sessions, students in online courses can still continue to attend their online courses by participating in discussion forums or chat sessions, watching lectures or reading materials.
Improve your computer skills.
Even the most basic online course requires the development of new computer skills that will be essential to finding employment in the coming years at a time when many companies will have made their digital transformation or will need qualified personnel to do so.
Learning in spite of geographical distance
E-learning is a very good alternative to accessibility issues. It allows all people far from physical training centres to access training, knowledge, skills and a diploma. The causes of remoteness can also be linked to a disability, a health problem, family constraints, etc. Distance learning is a solution, whatever the reason for remoteness. It allows access to training for all.
